The Traditional Chinese Medical system (also referred to as TCM) is based on the principle of achieving complete balance in the body. One never wants too much heat or too much cold, too much moisture or too much dryness, too much color or too much pallor, too much yin or too much yang. TCM helps the body to maintain stasis through the concept of balancing out Yin and Yang.

With this medicine, the body is viewed from a different perspective than that of modern, or “western” medicine. Much like a western doctor views the body as a series of blood vessels, bony structures, and nerves, a TCM practitioner sees energy pathways, also called “meridians”, creating a sort of energetic structure throughout the body. Rather than blood or marrow filling the structure, meridians have “Qi” or “Life-Force Energy” running through them. When the Qi is not flowing smoothly, the body is not functioning in it’s prime. Through the use of several traditional modalities, balance can restored. Such modalities include (but are not limited to):  Traditional Herbs, Needles (acupuncture), and Movement/Exercise (Qi Gong).

Placenta, known as the TCM herb “Zi He Che” is one of hundreds of herbs known to the Chinese Materia Medica to have medicinal value. Classical texts describes placenta medicine as:

“a substance that tonifies the dual deficiency of  yin and yang, with the ability to restore the root and return to the body’s primal Qi. Hominis Placenta  tonifies both the Qi and Blood, and augments the essence...”
